Frequently Asked Questions
Below are many of the questions we are asked online and at shows regularly. If you have more questions, please feel free to ask!
Who Is Behind Horse 'n' Round Studio?
Horse 'n' Round Studio is run by a wife & husband team in Buckley, Washington. We are an active hobby farm, with 8 sheep, a dog, and 2 cats (so far). It is currently Kathy's full-time business (along with freelance editing), with Allan providing manual support as needed (and it is always needed). Allan and Kathy have both worked in the technology industry since the days of cards and storage tapes.

Everything you see is handmade with the utmost care and love. With very few exceptions, the pieces are also unique, which means that no one else in the world will have the same thing when you purchase from my shop.

Our home is completely smoke-free. However, you know how pet hair is. All finished wearables are usually laundered before sending in order to ensure that they are as clean and allergen-free as possible. If you have specific needs (detergent allergies, animal allergies), please ask beforehand, and we should be able to accommodate, including item creation in an animal-free environment.

Do you take cards?
I accept cash and all major credit cards through Square, PayPal, Venmo, and Cash App. Payment is due at the time of purchase. I will not ship anything until the payment has gone through. If I do not receive a payment or communication within 72 hours of purchase, the item(s) will be relisted.

When placing a commission, you will receive a quote after we discuss everything that needs to be done. Additional work beyond the original scope may result in an increase in that quote. I require at least half of that price before I order materials and begin work. Half of this (1/4 of the original quote) is non-refundable, in order to offset the cost of supplies purchased.

I am happy to set up a reasonable payment plan with you, including scheduled invoices, for any item, finished or custom. Depending on the number and amount of payments, this may increase the cost (to cover the additional credit card processing fees).

What is your privacy policy?
Any information collected from you is for the express purpose of collecting payment for a specific item or for email correspondence as part of the website. You may opt out at any time through those systems.

Horse 'n' Round Studio will never sell contact information collected. Information collected through 3rd parties is subject to those individual privacy policies, as appropriate.

Copyright Notice (May I make things for sale from your patterns?)
Horse 'n' Round original patterns are copyrighted to Kathy Kemp and Allan Kemp, of Horse 'n' Round Studio. You may not reproduce the patterns for sale, but you may sell items produced from our patterns. We're happy that you enjoy them so much!

All we ask, if you do intend to sell the items, is to charge a fair price for your product, and please provide a link back to Horse 'n' Round Studio, horse-round.com.

What's up with the horse? Do you make all of this out of horse hair??
Where's the horse? The inspiration for the draft horse in our logo passed away at the ripe old age of 26, and our other draft cross passed due to lung cancer. We are only temporarily horseless. None of our items are made from horse hair.

What types of fiber arts do you do?
Kathy spins, felts, knits, crochets, weaves (including various cording techniques), and quilts. She previously created jewelry using many types of techniques as well. Tatting and bobbin lace are on the want-to-learn list, but at this point, her time is pretty well tapped out.

How can I get started with fiber arts?
What would you like to learn? The best way is to just try something. If you have something specific in mind, contact me for classes, or you can find a book online or at your local library. Want some book and product recommendations?
